July Newsletter

14th September 2016

Dear Foodbank supporter,

At last we have some good news to celebrate! Not only did Andy Murray win the tennis, and Lewis Hamilton the Grand Prix, but our foodbank collection generated 4.3 tonnes of food! Thanks to the supportive staff at Tesco, wonderful and willing corporate volunteers, help from the community, the drivers and warehouse team, our regular foodbank staff and most of all, our generous donors!

Thanks as always for your support,

Elizabeth and Jon (Project Lead & Branch manager)

School Visit

It was a pleasure to give the children from Sudbourne school a tour of our foodbank and answer questions on how the foodbank operates. They had a short quiz and even got to make some food parcels!

Foodbank Wedding

Not only did two of our fabulous volunteers (Phillipe and Sara-Jane), get married recently, but they also appealed for foodbank donations on their wedding list. They received 104 tins of beans, 148 tins of fruit and 55 tins of pulses. Great idea, thanks guys!

Roy’s Story

Instantly likeable, and clearly capable, it was no surprise that Roy, like many of our clients, was a victim of circumstance. He had worked all of his life, but had recently lost his job through stress, at the age of 58. His loss of income had left him with nothing and after signing on, he found the courage to walk back in to the job centre and ask for a foodbank voucher.

“I was terrified of asking for a voucher, and nervous coming to the foodbank. I am so glad I did. Everyone is so welcoming, it’s fantastic”

Roy wanted to give something back, and was one of our enthusiastic supermarket volunteers last week!
