NEWS AND UPDATES

New figures released by Lambeth Foodbanks last week reveal 10,565 people received an emergency food parcel between April – September 2021. 3,826 of these went to children. People are often forced to make the impossible choice between paying the rent or buying food. You can read more about our latest figures in this article from the Brixton Buzz.
Six months ago we received a grant to employ our sign-posting officer and form-filler extraordinaire – Fred Poll. At the time we had just started to meet clients face to face and offer some additional support. With Fred on board, we have been able to take this service to another level. Based in our Streatham warehouse, Fred has completed 65 often complex forms, many of which have lead to an increase in income for the clients involved. Without help with these forms, many clients would miss out on the extra income to which they are entitled. Well done Fred!
It’s not too late to join in with our Christmas Star campaign! We’ve already had some incredible handmade tree decorations, including these (pictured above) that were transported all the way from Switzerland by one of our supporters! Don’t forget the stars can be crocheted, knitted, sewn, or made from wood, wire, paper or any other material your imagination can conceive. All we ask is that they are safe (no spikey bits please), of good quality (this probably isn’t a craft for the kids) and not too large to fit on a tree. Our aim is to have enough stars to place one in every Christmas parcel we deliver. Homemade stars must be with us by Friday, 10th December. Please email Amanda at [email protected] before delivering to let us know they are on their way.
62 volunteers including members from local churches, schools, businesses and the wider community gave at least two hours of their time to help us collect food at Tesco stores in Streatham and Brixton recently. Their enthusiasm and energy, combined with the generosity of Tesco customers, meant that we collected a total of 3.33 tonnes of food. With 20% extra added on from Tesco this makes an incredible total! Thank you so much to everyone who has been involved in making this collection such a success.

We cannot express how much your support means to us. We know we’ve said it hundreds of times before, but we really couldn’t do any of this without you! Thank you for all your donations, financial support, fundraising, encouragement and volunteer hours you have given throughout the year.

Introducing the newest member of our team, Owen Smalley. Owen is our new driver and dispatch team leader. We’re sure Owen’s skills will be utilised in a number of different ways, but one role he is certain to embrace will be driving our new electric van (pictured in the background) as he helps to pick up and drop off food. Welcome to the team Owen.

Please click on the image above to see our most up to date shopping list. Our most needed items are whole or semi-skimmed UHT milk. Other items we need include non-pork meat, size 5 nappies and washing up liquid. If you can donate, here’s where to go or alternatively you can donate using the Bankuet delivery service.

REGULAR ITEMS

Between 20th-23rd December, we except to deliver over 750 Christmas food parcels across Lambeth. The parcels will contain the standard food bank items, a box (or more) of festive Christmas food, fresh items (fruit, veg, bread, eggs), a Christmas star and hopefully a gift for each adult and child. We have created an Amazon wish list of items we think would make great gifts for our clients. If you would like to purchase any of these items and deliver them to our warehouse by Friday, 10th December, we would be very grateful.
