Thank you Co-op shoppers!

Co-op Community Fund

As we’ve mentioned in a previous news update, recently, the Co-op relaunched a scheme for their members to actively support good causes in their local community and we are lucky enough to be one of more than 4,000 causes across the UK who’ve benefitted from the Local Community Fund and are making a difference in their communities.

We were lucky enough to have two local Co-ops supporting our work – West Norwood and Tulse Hill – and are very pleased to announce that thanks to the support of Co-op members, we will be awarded two grants of £1,655.89 and £3,395.51.

We’re extremely grateful to the Co-op members who choose us as their good cause and then went on to choose Co-op branded products and services, and used their Co-op Membership card, every time they shopped (which resulted in 1% of what they spent goes to their chosen cause).

How the Foodbank will benefit

Elizabeth Maytom, Project Lead for Norwood and Brixton Foodbank says,

This is a fantastic boost to us at the Foodbank and we’re so grateful for the support of everyone who took part and shopped at the Co-op.

The funds will go a long way to providing an enhanced service to those needing support through our Eat Well, Spend Less programme and will provide additional IT equipment during Foodbank sessions to help us to deliver our signposting services and support individuals beyond just a food parcel.

Our Eat Well, Spend Less programme has proved an extremely popular cooking course, designed to enable local people to learn to cook and giving them skills to cook healthy meals on a budget, and where possible using fresh items. The generosity of the local community has far exceeded our expectations.

Thank you.
