We’ve had a fantastic response to our Bankuet pilot launched last month, including our first donation pictured above. A huge thanks to everyone who has made a purchase or left feedback. We are continuing with this trial for another month. For those that missed it, this new social enterprise is aimed at making donating food simpler and ensuring the most urgently needed food items will be purchased. Simply click through to the Bankuet website and buy a bundle of food items that our Foodbank has identified as high priority. Bankuet will then deliver it for you to our warehouse. Please do continue to reply to this email and tell us how you found your user experience. Thanks.
After launching the Bankuet pilot last month we’ve decided to embrace technology again by registering with the Foodbank app. The app allows you to view food items that are in short supply and allows us send a push message to you when we urgently need a particular item. It’s free to download, simply go to the Apple App Store and search for Foodbank by Redemption Media. Unfortunately it isn’t available for Android phones at the moment but we are hopeful this will change soon. Please select the SECOND Norwood and Brixton Foodbank option when choosing which foodbank to support
A big thank you to everyone who has already had their harvest collection and dropped off donations, especially those who made prior contact to identify which items to request. We would still encourage those with collections pending to get in touch so we can help steer you towards items of short supply.
On Saturday, 14th September Baby Spinach together with Yogarise and Element Fitness raised funds for The Norwood and Brixton Foodbank in their ‘Miles to Meribel’ challenge in Streatham. Meribel is Streatham’s twin French town and is 500 miles away. The aim was to get as many participants as possible (including Foodbank’s Amanda and Mona!) to cycle a collective 500 miles on their static bikes and for donors to pledge support via their Virgin Money page. It was a great event and not only was the 500 miles achieved, but they smashed their target of £500 (nearer  to £800 at the last count). A massive thanks to the Baby Spinach team for choosing us as their charity to support.
On Thursday, 10th October we will be holding The Norwood and Brixton Foodbank AGM and you are very welcome to join us. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to update you on all we have achieved together over the past year and thank you all for your incredible support. We will also look forward to some exciting projects planned for the year ahead. The meeting will take place from 6.30-8.30pm at St Luke’s Church, Knights Hill SE27 0HS. Please RSVP to [email protected].
On Saturday, 12th October The Calton String Quintet will be performing at Herne Hill United Church at 11am as part of the Herne Hill Music Festival. During the performance there will be a collection for The Norwood and Brixton Foodbank. The Calton Ensemble are a string quintet consisting of 2 violins, viola, cello and double bass. Do attend this free performance if you can.
Over the years we have had many Foodbank cake stalls at the Love West Dulwich Christmas Fair on Rosendale Road, all of which have proven hugely popular. On Saturday, 30th November we have another opportunity to raise money for Foodbank and we re looking for volunteers to help bake or volunteer on the day. To register an interest please contact Susan at [email protected].
We have three distribution points across the Borough of Lambeth with different opening times for each. Click on the above image for more information regarding our food distribution points.
Our  annual Tesco supermarket collection will be on Thursday, 21st, Friday, 22nd and Saturday, 23rd November. As usual it will take place at the Streatham and Brixton stores where they will generously add an additional 20% to the total amount collected. This is a great opportunity to help us without having to make a regular commitment. We’d especially love corporate teams to volunteer in groups of four or five for three hour slots. If you are an individual or a corporate team please email [email protected].
Our shelves don’t always look as full as this; in fact, there are always a few items that we are especially low on. Click on the above image to view the products which are in short supply.
