NEWS AND UPDATES

Friday, 3rd September is National Food Bank Day! On this day, we encourage you to join with us in agreement that everybody deserves a hunger free future. One way you can show your support is by making a cash donation from your phone by texting ‘dinner XX’ (insert amount of your choice) to 70085visiting Bankuet to donate a food bundle or adding food items to one of our drop-boxes. Alternatively why not volunteer or use #NationalFoodBankDay to give us a shout-out on social media!
More than a million people could be forced to turn to food banks as the UK government plans to cut Universal Credit and Working Tax Credit payments by £20 a week this October. This cut will be a devastating blow for millions of households which are already struggling to make ends meet. Join the Trussell Trust at their online event on Wednesday, 8th September at 7pm and hear more about the campaign and how you can help!  REGISTER HERE
We are planning to open Foodbank hubs in September. Hubs will be operating across the borough and will provide face to face support for a wide range of needs including money management and benefits advice and also providing refreshments. Further details of venues, dates and what will be on offer will be communicated soon.
As we approach the start of a new term we’d love to remind those who have contacts with schools, churches or community groups to pass on our enthusiasm to receive harvest collections in October. This is always a vital way to replenish our shelves before winter. Please do contact us before planning so we can advise on food requirements and also provide a talk or resources if required.
Our partner Vauxhall Foodbank are looking for a sign-posting volunteer to help them on a Wednesday at their Foodbank Centre on Tyres Street. If you are free from 10.30am-2pm and would enjoy the role of talking with guests and sign-posting them to relevant services then please click here for the full job description and contact details.

We also need volunteers to help during the week at our Streatham warehouse. These daytime roles include packing and sorting food and driving. Limited spaces are also available to help on weekday evenings and on Saturdays. Please email [email protected] if you are interested in helping.
